Obituary of Anne Gaspar

Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Priscilla Anne was born in Buffalo, New York to Earl and Geraldine Turner Horohoe on May 23rd, 1961.

Although everyone knew her as Anne, her childhood nickname was Sunshine, reflecting her outgoing, loving spirit. People were naturally drawn to her. As a child, roller and ice skating were passions, so much so the family made an ice rink in their backyard. During high school at Kenmore West, she and her sisters were in musical and other theater productions together, and all enjoyed singing.  A brilliant student with a photographic memory, Anne earned her MBA at Penn State and Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. While in college at Grove City, she met her future husband, Jon, at his fraternity’s Christmas party. The two spent 42 years together and were married for 35. Anne always prioritized her family and loved spending time with her sons, Eric and Brandon, getting involved in any activity she could.

The year Anne was born, fewer than 1% of engineers were women. Anne’s career was essential to her as she made a successful foray in the STEM field. When Anne fell ill seven years ago, she was en route to becoming the first female Vice President at NRG where she worked as the Northeastern Regional Safety Manager. Anne was known for being a problem solver and encouraging people to always focus on finding solutions despite differing points of view or hardships. She was strong, fighting illness and sudden blindness; she always kept her spirits up.

During her 61 years, she always packed a lot into her life, traveling with her family, hosting parties, and participating in various sports.  She loved to dance, pulling people out on the dance floor.  Anne shared her love of theater and music with family and friends by taking them to many different shows. She kept a meticulous house and enjoyed cooking, especially trying new salsas or hot sauces.

Anne was a faithful woman.  Raised in Kenmore United Methodist Church, she converted to Catholicism about ten years ago, becoming a member of Saints Peter and Paul R.C. Church.  Anne served as a mentor for her children and for many people, socially and professionally, such as the American Chemical Society and other chemical engineering groups.  She started the Environmental Breakfast Club in Philadelphia and worked as a Nursing Mothers Counselor. Everybody called on her for advice.

Anne will be missed for her warm hugs and remembered for the sunshine she brought into everyone’s lives.
