Obituary of Barry A. Russell

Please share a memory of Barry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Barry was born in San Diego, California, on September 7th, 1945, to David and Ruth Russell. He was the oldest of eight children and the patriarch of his siblings. Barry adored his family, and they always came first. As a young boy, he worked at a deli and was an Altar Boy at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church. He met his wife Karen Maroone in high school and married her between deployments during his time with the U.S. Navy. They would bring two children into the world, Kelly and Jill, and grandsons David, Steven, and Jacob. Barry was a proud grandfather and taught them to be respectful and responsible gentlemen.

He was a machinist at Capem, making machines to put on bottle caps. After he retired, he became a terminal manager for Laidlaw. Also, he was a parking attendant at Sunset Bay and Hidden Harbor Marina. He was a hard worker that never could entirely retire and made many friends wherever he went.

Barry treated friends like family and would always help anyone with anything they needed. He enjoyed happy hour at Cabana Sam’s, leaving the house with ten chips and coming home with 20. His favorite drinks were Bud Light and Deep Eddy Lemon, as he liked being both behind and in front of the bar listening to ’70s music. Barry was a Buffalo Bills fan and a season ticket holder for the 1970’s Buffalo Sabres era, even naming his daughter after a Sabre’s player.

His smile, hugs, and heart were all larger than life and will be missed greatly.
