KRAKOWIAK, Mary Ann (Szalay) of West Seneca, NY passed on August 28, 2022 with her children beside her at the age of 89.  Beloved wife of the late Stanley A. Krakowiak.  Devoted mother of Mary Theresa (Donald) Vanouse of Oswego, NY, Michael (Kathleen) Krakowiak of Lancaster, NY, Arthur Krakowiak of Hamburg, NY, Karen Eberhardt of Depew, NY and Pamela Jean Krakowiak of West Seneca, NY.  Loving Grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; loving sister of Margaret Preston of Elma, NY, & the late Paul Szalay, John (Margaret) Szalay, Joseph (Joyce) Szalay and Ann Agen.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  

Born in Elyria, OH, Mary grew up in Buffalo’s first ward, graduated from South Park High School and became an early example of a working Mom, raising her children and balancing her career as an office manager for P&L Painting and later a Payroll Specialist for Erie Community College.  In retirement she was an RSVP volunteer at West Seneca Senior Center, donating hundreds of quilts and angel pockets to hospitals and nursing homes.  She enjoyed camping, traveling, pinochle, bowling, sewing, crocheting, quilting, baking and spending time with her family.   

Family and friends are invited to call at Lakeside Memorial Funeral  Home, 1340 Union Road, West Seneca, NY from 2:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, September 1.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 2 at 9:00 am at St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 5271 Clinton Street, Elma, NY  14059. Please assemble at church. Online condolences and donations may be made at   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital Neo-Natal Unit.
