Obituary of Jacalyn Ann Starr

Please share a memory of Jacalyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jacalyn Starr, affectionately known as Jackie to her friends and family, was born on February 3, 1960, to her parents, John and Natalie Eckl. Born and Raised in Buffalo, she was one of four children and was known to be the fun and popular one in the family! She always had a great sense of humor, and everyone enjoyed spending time with her.

As a young adult, Jacalyn met and married her husband, Randall Starr, and the couple was blessed with two children, Brianne and Corey. Randall tragically died at a very young age, leaving Jackie with two young children to care for. Despite her struggles, she remained a fiercely independent and resilient woman and never lost her amazing humor or spunk. She later added to her beautiful family when she had two more children, Samantha and Carly. Although she had her share of struggles, Jacalyn was never one to ask for help and always made sure everyone else had their needs met. Her kids all admired her strength and saw her as a role model. She always made time for fun with her kids too and shared her love of art with them throughout their lives. She provided for her family by working at the Western New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office for over 30 years. Early in her career, she loved working with the patients at the facility and would even bring them for fun little outings any time she got a chance. One of her favorite trips to take them on was to her sister Marcy’s bar so they could sit at the bar and enjoy pop together.

In her spare time, Jackie loved to tend to the flowers and fruits in her garden and had a soft spot for animals. She was always rescuing and bringing home a new dog or cat. Around Christmas time, she could often be found watching her favorite Christmas movies, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and Bad Santa. No Christmas was complete without the delicious fudge that she would make for the whole family. She loved comedies and horror movies alike and was the trivia queen especially when it came to movies or music. Playing slot machines was another favorite pastime of hers, and she was able to take a trip to Las Vegas with her family to light up the slots all along the strip! The last road trip she was able to take was to the beach in South Carolina with Marcy. The beach was one of her favorite places to be, and she made many precious memories on that trip that will last a lifetime. Anyone who knew her could attest that she was beautiful inside and out.

Although Jackie was taken far too soon, she leaves behind many memories and stories that will continue to be told for years to come. She will be missed but not soon forgotten.
