Joe Sheehan

Obituary of Joe Sheehan

Joseph (Joe) Sheehan was born to Paul and Sarah Sheehan of East Aurora on a snowy November day in 1942. He spent his early years at Immaculate Conception School where he was an altar server and helping his grandfather mow lawns and working at neighboring farms picking radishes and tending to gardens. After graduating from East Aurora High School, Joe enlisted in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era, stationed on Mt. Fuji in Japan and in California. He quickly became a helicopter crew chief and developed his aircraft machinist skills. He also developed a fondness for motorcycles and continued to ride them into his fifties. Joe raised his 3 children Lisa, Amy, and the late Joseph in West Seneca while working at Worthington Corp of Buffalo. They especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and everything outdoors. In 1990, Joe reconnected with Carol, an old friend from the 1960s. They married in 1995, giving him a stepson, Todd, and moved to Elma where Joe was able to continue his love for the outdoors riding his tractor and tending to his garden always looking for the first tomato of the season. Joe liked to be with people and was always there to listen when someone needed him. He was giving by nature and a dedicated community member. He was a member of the American Legion, East Aurora Conservation Club, Queen of Heaven Church Carnival Committee, and Knights of St. John and a dedicated volunteer with the South Buffalo Community Table. Losing both his legs in 2017 never stopped his energy to serve others and explore the countryside. He was a great storyteller, gentleman, and jokester. All who knew him considered him to be a kind, compassionate, patient, and loyal friend. Sheehan, Joseph P. of Elma, NY entered into rest on May 20, 2022. Beloved husband of Carol Sheehan (nee Jasiura); cherished father of Lisa (Paul) Sheehan-Gozdziak, Amy (John) Zajac, and the late Joseph T. Sheehan Jr.; caring stepfather of Todd A.
