Matthew Gannon

Obituary of Matthew James Gannon

Wearing old school Adidas and always matching from socks to Ray Ban sunglasses. From stealing candy as a child from Grammy Gavin’s “hen” candy dish to earning a computer networking degree in Colorado. From playing defense in hockey, catcher in baseball, and riding BMX to playing poker, pool, and horseshoes with his friends near and far. From reading bedtime stories with family to partying until the sun came up. From listening to his favorite music like Pantera and Sublime through headphones to fishing pridefully from the canoe or tin boat. Never doing anything halfway, always fulfilling his interests 100%. This is how Matthew Gannon lived. Pulling someone aside at a family party and making him or her feel like the most special person in the room. Gravitating toward underdogs in society, wanting to bring them joy and acceptance. Toasting a drink with a “Slainte” to friends and strangers alike. Respecting all creatures, and seeking companionship from his faithful dogs, Hazel, Z, and Casey Jones (AKA Ace). Handling any newborn family members with extra tenderness and care. Sharing a passion for the Buffalo Sabres with his brother, with whom he would watch games over the phone while living out west. Never shy or hesitant to express how he felt, always leaving everyone with a hug and an “I love you”. This is how Matthew Gannon loved. Beloved first-born son of Bill and Jill Gannon. Godson of Uncle Mike and Aunt Gail Kaney. Older brother of Erin, who describes him as “my protector, my heart, and my other half.” Also older brother, best friend, and fishing partner to Chris. Cousin #7 in a huge, tight knit family. Proud uncle to Alexander and Calvin. Guiding light to countless other relatives and friends. This is who Matthew Gannon was. Happiest near water, especially treasuring the trips with his family along the St. Lawrence River. His radiant smile, mischievous giggle, and ebullient laughter. Insightful, thoughtful, kind, intense, loving, compassionate, irreplaceable. This is how Matthew Gannon will always be remembered. Gannon, Matthew James of Hamburg, NY suddenly on May 17, 2022.
