Obituary of Thomas Leonard Gaj

Thomas Leonard Gaj was an all-around jokester and wanted nothing more with his day than to make somebody laugh. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and he instilled that kind sentiment into anybody he came across. Tom was born in Buffalo, New York to Leonard and Eileen Gaj, with his younger sister, Kathie, completing their family. He was very protective of his sister and always defended her when someone wasn’t treating her with respect. Tom was a curious boy with a mischievous streak who liked to explore the way things worked; he once took a motorcycle apart and put it back together in their basement. This behavior was a precursor to electrical wiring becoming his specialty skill later in life. At the cusp of adulthood, Tom enlisted in the United States Army on May 20th, 1968, and was active through the Vietnam war until May 19th, 1971. Much of his service was spent stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, which he greatly enjoyed. Tom was very proud of his service to his country and to be able to follow in his father Leonard’s footsteps. Tom fell in love when he met his future wife Kathleen at a bar near where she lived; the two connected from there and started dating. On February 16th, they celebrated 48 wonderful years together, and the family of three with their beautiful daughter, Michelle. As a family man, Tom took care of everything, fixing up the home and maintaining their cars. Service to others was his love language, even though he used words to express his feelings towards those he loved often, you always knew how much he cared through his actions. Tom was always looking out for family, calling his father often to check on his health, making sentimental presents for friends, and always attempting to get everyone to laugh with his good humor and hilarious jokes. And while the world itself is a little less dim in his absence, the love and care he showed to every person he met is carried on in their memory and everlasting love for him. Gaj, Thomas Leonard of Cheektowaga, NY peacefully entered into rest May 14th, 2022 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Kathleen (nee McKeown) Gaj; loving son of Leonard (late Eileen) Gaj; devoted father to Michelle (Craig) Kaminski; cherished brother of Kathie (Christopher) Misztal; also survived by dear family and friends.
