Ann Scheelar

Obituary of Ann M. Scheelar

Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ann Scheelar was born in Manhattan in 1932 to Joseph and Edith Cronin. She was raised in an affluent Irish family but kept her practicality and pragmatism throughout her life. She met her late husband, Earl, in Washington D.C. when she was attending Trinity College and he was attending Georgetown. The two hit it off and she moved to Buffalo to be with him. The couple was blessed with two children, Tom and Jeanne, who then made her grandmother to 8 grandchildren. Family was a huge part of Ann’s life, and she was a strong source of support for all of her kids and grandkids. One of the things she was well known for was thoughtful gifts. She always remembered when a birthday was coming up and would take her time to find just the right gift for that person. One of Ann’s greatest passions in life was teaching. She taught at the elementary school level at St. Peter & Paul School for many years and loved every minute of it. Helping children learn and grow was very important to her, and through her work with kids, she also made lifelong friends with fellow educators who she kept in touch with throughout the rest of her life. Ann often got together for lunch with her dear friend Louise and other retired teachers to catch up. She was devoted to lifelong learning and read any books she could get her hands on, often reading an entire book in one day. Charlaine Harris was one of her favorite authors, and she also enjoyed reading the Game of Thrones series. Ann was an exceptionally skilled concert pianist and had a great ear for music. She was very artistic in general and enjoyed creating beautiful works of art through her music, designing and creating lampshades, and making beautiful flower arrangements at a florist she worked for after retiring. Looking her best was also important for Ann. No matter what was going on, she made a point to always have her jewelry on before she left the house. She enjoyed getting her nails and hair done regularly at the salon that one of her granddaughters owned and worked at, which allowed her to maintain her classy demeanor and catch up with family and friends at the same time. Ann was truly a one-of-a-kind woman who left behind many precious memories, as well as her values of strength and pursuing education. Scheelar, Ann M. on May 4, 2022 of Hamburg, NY.
