Obituary of Tyler George Stephens

Tyler Stephens was a kind, loving, wonderful young man. He was known for his sense of humor, friendly demeanor, & wonderful smile, regardless of the challenges he faced in life from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His 1st home was in Blasdell until age 7, when he & his family moved to Eden. His favorite activities included video games, reading, history, and spending time with family and friends. Tyler was well versed in many different hobbies, such as fishing, cooking, sword collecting, remote control cars, Pokémon and Magic the Gathering cards, and reading manga. He was also a lifelong Buffalo Sabres fan and enjoyed watching old hockey fights on YouTube. He liked watching Game Grumps and Rooster Teeth. Music was a big part of Tyler’s life as well, enjoying bands such as Disturbed, Coheed and Cambria, Breaking Benjamin, Green day, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park, and attending concerts when able to. He was an avid video gamer as well, enjoying Assassins Creed, Dark Souls, and Call of Duty, and would keep in touch with lots of friends through Discord & Xbox live. When Tyler was 7, he & his family went on a Make a Wish trip to Disney World by train. He also looked forward each summer to his time at MDA camp, & later Camp Promise. For his 18th birthday, his grandfather gifted him a Disney cruise, which he again enjoyed with his family. He always hoped to take another cruise one day, to Europe. Tyler’s grandparents and some aunts/uncles would affectionately call him “Tippy Ty.” As his nephew Kenny was getting older, they shared a love of video gaming, and Kenny would often stand behind him, or sit on his bed watching him play, and learning the games from him. Or sit on his uncle’s wheelchair foot pedals when out places together. Much as Tyler’s sister & brother rode on the back of his wheelchair when they were younger. Tyler also loved animals, enjoying the former family pet shop named after him, or the many family pets they’ve had over the years. From Brittney his childhood cat to his most recent corgi puppy he got for his birthday in January & named Iris. Tyler chose the names for many of the family pets, most recently preferring celestial-related names. Tyler dedicated much of his life to enriching the lives of others and furthering the research of Muscular Dystrophy. He took part in drug studies, enjoying the check-ins as family vacation time, specifically in Baltimore. He and his family also helped MDA fundraisers and appeared on the MDA telethon for many years. Tyler had big dreams, and seldom let muscular dystrophy hold him back. He wanted to have left a positive impact on others & not be forgotten. He has left us with many wonderful memories and all who were lucky enough to have known him are the better for it. Stephens, Tyler G. of Eden, NY entered into rest on March 25, 2022.
