Matthew Keefe

Obituary of Matthew James Keefe

Matthew James Keefe was a fun-loving man with a great sense of humor. He met his wife Yvette at Piz-A-Italia in North Collins, where the two remained each other’s best friends and married for 26 years. Together they had three children, Emily, Evan, and Jordan; Matthew also has another son Eric. He was the disciplinarian in the family but was consistently fair and just. Matthew found much joy in getting his kids into sports and even coached Emily’s softball team. His dogs and cat were also very precious to him, his close companions Penny, Tori and Zeke. He was generous, forgiving, and always ready to dispense wisdom to those he loved. Matthew was proud of his sobriety and a “Friend of Bill”. In his younger 20s, he volunteered for Lake Shore Fire Department and played for their softball team. Matthew was a Steamfitter by trade with the Local 22. Incredibly handy, he could build anything around the house and was hardworking and always busy working on a project or perfecting his yard. He enjoyed playing chess, reading Ken Follett, John Grisham and Stephen King, and relishing in good music in his leisure time. Matthew played acoustic and electric guitar and loved rock’n’roll, especially Pink Floyd. Enjoying the outdoors was essential to Matthew. He loved a good bonfire; even if it was still light outside, he would get a large fire going early and enjoy it under the stars on a hot summer day with family. He and Yvette liked camping, especially at Evergreen Trails. They enjoyed visiting Presque Isle in Erie P.A. Matthew will be missed greatly for his giving nature and unforgettable storytelling. His loving and kind spirit will forever be remembered by those he loved. Keefe, Matthew James of Hamburg, NY passed February 21, 2022.
