Obituary of William R. Coughlin

William R. Coughlin was born and raised in West Seneca, NY, the only boy of 7 children. Throughout his life, he made sure to look out for and take care of all his sisters whenever they needed him. After graduating high school, Bill enlisted in the Navy, where he was stationed in Puerto Rico. There were many good stories he shared with all of us from that time, (and not many of them were about his actual service!) Upon Bill’s return home, he was introduced by his next-door neighbor to a beautiful young lady whose name was Marilyn. The two of them were inseparable. They eventually got married in 1968 and started their family shortly thereafter. Bill and Marilyn had four children, Kelly, Billy, and the twins, Erin, and Eileen. He was so proud of all his kids and pretty much took them everywhere he went as kids. Eileen was his main sidekick as she got older. Bill worked for Niagara Mohawk and held a few different positions throughout his career, including a meter reader, cable splicer, lineman, and then retired as a trouble dispatcher in 1999 after 30 years with the company. In his spare time, Bill was a fireman in West Seneca, where he volunteered at Winchester, Seneca Hose, and Vigilant, where he held many positions, including lieutenant, Assistant Chief, Chief and Fire Commissioner and became a life member. He also was a member of American Legion Post #721 and #735. Bill also was involved in grief counseling for Erie County Fire District Association. Bill made so many friends and mentored so many throughout the years. He always had a story to tell and always made everyone around him laugh. He will be truly missed. But he is now up in heaven with his baby girl, and we are at peace knowing that neither one of them are suffering anymore. Coughlin, William R. February 7, 2022 of West Seneca, NY. Beloved husband of Marilyn Coughlin (nee McGrath); devoted father of Kelly Rijnholt, William J. Coughlin, Erin Coughlin, and the late Eileen Coughlin; loving grandfather of Shaelyn Rijnholt; caring brother of Kathleen Maroney, Margaret Smith, Maureen (Henry) Tabaczynski, the late Patricia, the late Jean, and the late Dottie; also survived by many cousins and friends.
