Obituary of Eileen A. Coughlin

Eileen was welcomed into this world on an early September morning back in 1974 in Buffalo, New York to William R. and Marilyn Coughlin, along side her twin sister, Erin. The two girls were such a joy to their older sister, Kelly and brother, Billy who watched over their baby sisters throughout their lives. Eileen was extra special, as she was born with cerebral palsy. Although she had a physical handicap, this by no means held her back from enjoying life to the fullest. She had started school at a young age, where she attended UCPA and then School 84, where she developed lifelong relationships. Eileen moved on to a special education class in the West Seneca School District and eventually was mainstreamed into middle school where she continued on and graduated from West Seneca East Senior High School in 1993. She had no problem fitting in with other students during this transition. She made so many friends throughout the years and maintained those friendships through adulthood. That meant a lot to her because nobody ever treated her as though she was different. Eileen continued on her education after receiving three scholarships, where she dormed at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania and graduated with her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration at Erie Community College in Buffalo. She worked for a couple years at People, Inc. in Buffalo, until such time that her health issues got the best of her and she was no longer able to work. That did not stop her from keeping busy though! Eileen decided to write and publish a book named ‘The New Kid at School’, which she went around to many local schools in the area and read to elementary students. This book explained to others that although someone may have a disability, that doesn’t make them different and there is no reason to be afraid of them. She helped so many people understand things better. Eileen lit up the room with her infectious smile no matter where she went. She shared a special bond with her dad, Bill who never hesitated to take Eileen out with him wherever he went, visiting friends and enjoying each other’s company, especially when it came to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Family meant a lot to Eileen. No matter how sick she felt, and how difficult things got for her, she always made sure that her sisters and brother were okay. She enjoyed visiting with her twin, Erin, who would always make sure she brought an iced coffee for her. She absolutely adored her niece, Shaelyn, who spent a lot of time with her. Shae would lay in bed with Eileen and they would watch their favorite shows together, including Stranger Things and countless other videos on Netflix and YouTube, where they would laugh and roleplay and just enjoy each other’s company. Eileen also enjoyed reading, spending time on her Kindle and computer. Eileen will be missed by so many and will be remembered for her quick-witted sense of humor and outgoing spirit.
