Obituary of Francis Joseph Myers

Francis (Fran) Myers was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother. He spent 33 years as a teacher at Hamburg Central School District working as a technology education teacher. During that time, he taught everything from woodworking, welding and small engine repair to multimedia production and graphic design. Outside of the classroom, his teaching and mentoring continued in the Boy Scouts and in his ventures as a businessman. Fran had a passion for scouting. He was involved as a scout leader for 17 years serving as a Scoutmaster, Camping Committee Chairman, Order of the Arrow chapter advisor, and Camp Director for Camp Scouthaven and Camp Schoellkopf. Fran was a lover of music. He was mostly self-taught as a banjo and a dobro player and enjoyed playing folk music, bluegrass and old country. As much as he enjoyed playing music, he also loved singing and listening to others play music. He and his wife Barbara met through mutual friends and shared a love of ballroom dancing. In 2013, Fran and Barbara were married in Arizona. They enjoyed 17 interesting years together. They traveled twice to Ireland to visit Barbara’s family and research Fran’s heritage. Fran always loved a good argument (see discussion/debate). He wanted his kids and grandkids to know how to discuss and defend their positions. He believed people should stand up for their beliefs even if there was a price to be paid. He challenged everything, even things he believed in, and he expected to be challenged in return. Fran was the ultimate problem solver. Each problem was the next opportunity. The more creative the solution, the more he liked it. Although he was an incredible problem solver, he would never solve someone else’s problems. Rather he would guide people through their own process to find a solution. He loved when people were successful but believed that the failures were also an important part of the journey and is where true learning happened. Fran was very proud of his family and took a vested interest in the accomplishments of everyone around him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. MYERS - Francis J.
