Obituary of Jody Mashtaire

Jody Mashtaire’s world was all about family. He was a devoted family man that did everything he could to be there and provide for them. His selflessness and giving nature would be remembered by all who knew him. Jody was born in Buffalo, New York to his parents, Homer and Joann Mashtaire, joining a household of 5 other siblings. After high school, he was driven to serve, and enlisted in the United States Army, and was discharged with military honors. Collectively, he put in 11 dedicated years of service to our nation, a feat he remained proud of for the remainder of his life. He would often recount that he was able to see the world while on tour, while teasing his children about the outdoor conditions he endured during that time. After his time in the service, he dedicated his life to his children. He was known often as the “Neighborhood Dad,” playing street hockey with the neighborhood kids and buying each kid an ice cream when the ice cream truck came down the block. He could fire up a grill like no one’s business; at family parties, his grill was his permanent station, making sure everything was cooked to perfection. And when Jody wasn’t tending to his family, he enjoyed his share of nights out with his near and dear family and friends. Jody loved to bust a move, and could show you a few things on the dance floor. Jody also had a passion for the outdoors. On any given day he would hop in the car and go fishing with his children and family, sometimes for hours. He enjoyed a good hunting trip as well and carried a collection of guns, bows and arrows. He even bought a dirt bike and loved the riding experience, despite busting his knee at one point. But still hopped around taking care of everyone around him. Despite any difficult situation they faced, Jody kept a positive outlook throughout it all. He would put a smile on and say, “Don’t worry, we’re going to be okay.” He lived his life as fully and completely as he could and will always be remembered for his unconditional and everlasting love for his family and those he cared about. He will be dearly missed, and the world is a little less bright with his absence. Sgt. Jody Mashtaire, age 50, of Lackawanna, NY passed away Friday, December 10, 2021.
