Obituary of Kathleen J. Giardina
Kathleen Giardina, affectionately known to friends and family as Kathy, was born in Buffalo, New York to Anthony and Agnes Santa Maria alongside two sisters, Mary, and Ida. She met her husband Anthony Giardina in grammar school at P.S. 45 on the Westside of Buffalo when she was 13 years old, and he was 14. She was very proud of him as he made LaFayette high school Hall of Fame as a football player. The two would get married in 1966 on Thanksgiving Day, as Kathy’s parents owned Lakeside Market and wouldn’t close the store, so they decided marrying on a holiday would be the best decision. Their 55th Anniversary would have been November 24th, 2021, though they missed sharing it together by a day. Family was incredibly important to Kathy as she always made time to do anything for the people she loved. Her sister’s children were often treated like her own and she was always there for her grandchildren. When her son welcomed his wife Michelle into the family, she became the daughter that Kathy never had, and the two were extremely close. They even had a foreign exchange student from El Salvador, Julio for three summers, who came to visit her this past September. Kathy supported her son through everything he did in life; he loved being an only child because he got her all to himself. Anthony, her son, also got his excellent work ethic from his mother. Kathy ran two beauty salons in Hamburg and East Aurora, only retiring after she battled cancer. She opened her first shop in 1975 with tremendous business sense and made sure everyone treated her with equal professionalism who walked through her salon, or else she showed them the door. Kathy was a color specialist that was hired to teach other salons by the color manufacturer how to properly apply the color product because of her skill level. When she wasn’t enjoying her Buffalo Bills season tickets, and winning dance contests, Kathy loved traveling with Anthony. They had a condo in St. Martin that unfortunately was destroyed by a hurricane. Their most fond memories were spent visiting Italy and meeting Anthony’s living family members in Sicily. The highlight of one of their trips was seeing Andre Bocelli in concert in Tuscany under the stars. They had wonderful memories that they created together that will be cherished forever. Kathy will be remembered for her tenacious work ethic and missed for her love of family. Giardina, Kathleen J. (nee Santa Maria) November 23, 2021 of Hamburg, NY. Beloved wife of Anthony S.
