Obituary of Richard J. Izzo

Richard J. Izzo was a family and businessman who would do anything for those that he cared deeply for. He never had a negative bone in his body and always remembered the names of everyone he met, and the car they drove, as he had an incredible memory. You could always count on Richard to tell a good story or save a dance for you. He was a sharp dresser, he grew up wearing custom suits, owning nineteen fedoras, three racks of ties; he looked like he was dressed for business and always prepared for the day. Richard had a great sense of humor and had his own quirky sayings such as “Do you have two 10’s for a 5?” “You need any bread?” and “You know I have ties older than you!” He was born in Buffalo, New York, and attended both Canisius High School (1949) and Canisius College (1954). He always kept in touch with most of his high school and college friends and attended many reunions. At the young age of twelve, he enjoyed working with his father in the family business. Richard started Hamburg Chrysler Plymouth in 1966 with his brother Nick and father Nicholas in the Village of Hamburg. In 1968, they bought property on Camp Road and opened Hamburg Chrysler in 1969. Today, Superior Auto Sales will continue to be operated by his two sons, Richard, and Nicholas Izzo. He was very proud of his many grandchildren who joined him in his business. Richard loved going to work and did so up to his death at age ninety. He would famously say “They call me ‘MD’ the Motor Doctor.” He loved talking to customers anytime they came in the door. Richard was a very faithful man, and he had a tremendous love for his cats, dogs, and his horse named Champ. Richard even got his daughter Trisha into riding horses, which they shared their passion until today. His family valued his wealth of knowledge. Richard surrounded his life with family which was important to him. Richard met his first wife Barbara and were married for 34 years before her passing. Later in life, Richard met his second wife Mary and they've been together 28 years. Richard enjoyed simple pleasures in life such as black and white movies, tasty cannoli, hot home-cooked meals, and dining at his favorite restaurants like Fortuna’s, LaNova, Russel's, and Santaserio’s. He dedicated his life to his automotive business, he was passionate about his health and wellness, but always found time to show his family love and enjoy his life; at least you can say he did it "his way". Izzo, Richard J. Suddenly November 17, 2021 of Lake View, NY.
