June Cotter

Obituary of June Mary Cotter

June Cotter, a loving, caring, and compassionate woman, had a generous heart from which her love for family knew no bounds. Her beautiful smile would warm the spirit of all she met and make you smile in return. June was born June 1; 1937, to Carl and Olvia Takac of West Seneca. On that day, her parents were expecting only one child, but unbeknownst to them, there were twins! Twin sister Janice was born first, but with a second daughter, Carl and Olvia had to think of another name, and since this was a day they would remember forever, they chose the name June. That Takac family grew further with two brothers, Robert, and Paul, and the youngest, sister Barbara. June met Daniel Cotter, while working at Liberty Shoe store in South Buffalo and he soon became the love of her life. Dan left for a time to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps, by the time he returned, he knew that June would be his wife. They married on June 4, 1960, and nine months later, arrived their son Kevin. Over the years, June and Dan continued to grow their family by welcoming four daughters: Colleen, Mary, Pamela, and Sharon. June's children each found their own loves, with whom they could emulate her devotion. The family would continue to expand with 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. June and Dan were blessed with 61 happy years of marriage. Early on she supported her family by selling Tupperware, and soon found herself working in the Town of West Seneca Assessor's Office. June went on to work for many years at the Erie County Clerk's Office, where she retired from the Pistol Permit Office. Family was everything to June. Her loving spirit was always on display with her children especially, and she was always instilling family values to be carried on to the next generation. June and Dan seemingly made it to every concert, Little Loop and school sports game, scouting event or parade. The Cotter family summer vacations were never missed and often meant camping at Allegany State Park and other cramped car trips, but June and Dan made sure to always show them how to have fun. She had an open door and very welcoming home and was most happy when anyone would just stop in to say hello or to share a story and laugh. She welcomed many friends and family over for parties and holiday get-togethers, she was a the happiest with others around. When not hosting parties or spending time with family, June was very involved in and around West Seneca. Throughout the town, she was often recognized or would stop to say "Hi" to someone. It commonly took a while to leave a restaurant since June would stop to chat with an old friend. June was a long-time member of the West Seneca -Woman's Club, served often with the Board of Elections each November and actively supported other organizations throughout the town including Dan's membership with the West Seneca Auxiliary Police and the Marine Corp Detachment. June and Dan arranged and hosted a number of trips to Ireland for acquaintances from town. Being Irish Catholic, June was strong in her faith, and taught her children the importance of keeping faith a strong aspect of their lives. She cherished having the whole family at church on Sundays and even taught religious classes in her home to teach other children of her church community those same values. June expressed so much love to her family, friends, and everyone in the West Seneca Community. Her heart was pure gold, and the world is a little less bright in her absence.
