Obituary of Gerald Martin Nemec

Gerald Nemec was born and raised in Ohio and moved to Buffalo around 1977. Jerry comes from a huge family and is the oldest of fourteen children. His family was very adventurous. They often took trips across the country, all the way to Alaska and also up to Canada to hunt moose, fish, camp, etc. His sense of adventure and love for the outdoors all started from these family trips. Jerry learned how to be a great man and father from watching his parents, Donald and Mary Ann. Jerry knew what the important things were in life; family, fishing, and football. a trait he later passed on to his children. Jerry was more than a father to his children. He always welcomed his children’s friends into our family as his own. Jerry extended his large family when he met his future wife, Laura while working at Francesco's Restaurant. The pair hit it off and began their lives together, sharing thirty-six beautiful years. The couple would be blessed with four children: Alesia, Nathan, Jessica, and Brittany. The family would grow with the addition of nine grandchildren. Gerald's passion for the outdoors, hiking, and fishing would be passed on to his children and grandchildren. Jerry adored his grandchildren and always loved spending time with them. Big family adventures were a must in the Nemec household. Following one of his passions, he started in the restaurant business as a chef, working in restaurants such as Francesco's and Flying Tigers. After a number of years, Jerry left the restaurant business to spend more time with his growing family. He started to work at J&R Products in Orchard Park with his brothers, friends, and even some of Laura's brothers. After his time there, he worked various other technology jobs, including starting his own company, Plastech Fabricators. However, his final job and favorite position was working as an engineer at Viant in Orchard Park, NY where he was able to use his knowledge of engineering and computers. When he wasn't working, fishing, or camping, he enjoyed other activities. His time in the restaurant business made him a fantastic cook. Food was a large part of his life, and he enjoyed teaching his family how to cook, especially chicken marsala, his specialty. He enjoyed showing off his cooking skills on holidays and on game-day. An avid fan of the Bills, game-days were often spent with family and friends. Jerry also enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. He was also a politics and history buff, fascinated by the 60s and 70s counterculture that he was too young to participate in during the time. If all else failed, one could find Jerry enjoying a gin and tonic with friends, tinkering around the house, or caring for his father's old boats with his son, Nathan. Jerry was always up for an adventure and an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
