Hank Colligan

Obituary of Hank Colligan

Harold Colligan, affectionately known as Hank, believed in kindness, acceptance, and forgiveness. He would always find a way to see the good in everyone and seized each day with a sense of humor in his heart. Harold was married to his beloved Marjorie for over 70 years. The two loved to travel, ballroom dance, golf, and visit the VFW; together, they raised nine beautiful children and had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an exceptional husband and father and loved to share his many hobbies and talents with his children. When they were little, he would give Marjorie a break by taking them to Chestnut Ridge Park and play a game where he would hide Sugar Daddies in the trees and have a treasure hunt with them. Harold was a proud US Army Air Force Veteran and served during World War II as a cryptologist in the Air Offensive Europe, Ardennes, Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, and Rhineland campaigns. He would later work for Ford Motor Company for 28 years and would enjoy his leisure days golfing, cross country skiing, camping, and playing bridge weekly for over 70 years. Staying physically fit was essential to Harold, as he was an extremely active man and walked every day of his life. In the early 1970s, Harold started jogging in the neighborhood. He enjoyed running and jogging so much he even ran the Buffalo Marathon once and did the Turkey Trot annually, participating in his last at age 87. Woodworking was also a passion for Harold, and he made many beautiful pieces for his family members, especially his children. Whenever he wanted to make something, he would handpick the cherry, oak, or walnut wood from his son’s forest; and that made it even more special to him. Harold was a profoundly religious man, a eucharist minister, and believed in giving back to his community as he volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He will be remembered for his unwavering sacrifice and love for his country, community, and family. Colligan Harold J., September 22, 2021 of West Seneca, NY. Beloved husband of the late Marjorie A Colligan (nee LeBlanc); devoted father of Karen (Paul) Rogers, Eileen (John) Tuohy, David (Nancy) Colligan, Robert (Dianna) Colligan, Anne (Thomas) Smith, Mary (Joseph) Gallagher, Thomas Colligan, Susan (Vincent) Sicurella, and Kathleen (Gregory) Cleary; cherished grandfather of 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; predeceased by six siblings; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
