Donald Kraft

Obituary of Donald Michael Kraft

Donald Kraft, lovingly known as "Krafty," was a giving and dedicated man. He was a "busy bee," always on the go. Krafty loved being heavily involved in his community and family, belonging to countless organizations. A very social person, Krafty was well-known and well-loved. Krafty was a proud firefighter for many years at Union Fire Company. During his time at Union, he was invited to dinner by one of his fellow firefighters. During that dinner, he would meet Gail Wittek, his future wife. The pair hit it off, and the rest was history. The couple was later blessed with three children; Jill, Cheryl, and Bob. Krafty adored his family, serving as a great mentor to his children, teaching them to fish, and taking them on many camping trips to various areas. His family only grew with the addition of seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends, including lifelong friend Tom Bausch. And, of course, his family extended to his furry friend and beloved dog, Maggie. After his time with Union Fire Company, Krafty would then join Vigilant Fire Company of West Seneca in the August of 1979. He would bravely serve for approximately 32 years, receiving life membership. A life member of the Erie County Fire Police and Erie County Firemen's Association, Krafty received countless awards for his service and dedication to improving his community. He was also a proud Vietnam Era Army Veteran, also belonging to American Legion Post #735 for approximately 31 years. When he was not volunteering, he worked various construction and highway department jobs to support his family. Krafty worked for ABC Paving for many years and spent 18 years working for the Town of West Seneca's Highway Department before retiring. His work history also led to membership of the #210 Laborers Union. When not working, Krafty enjoyed many activities. A lover of the outdoors, he was a member of the Erie County Conservation Society for 31 years. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren and hunting. Incredibly handy, Krafty also built various projects, including a fish pond and chicken coop for his backyard. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle before he couldn't anymore. As he aged, he began a few new hobbies, such as line-dancing once a week. He was also a member of the ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out). Krafty always looked forward to having meals with the other members at least once a month. Donald "Krafty" Kraft will be remembered for his dedication and giving nature. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the honor to know him. Kraft, Donald M. of West Seneca, NY passed peacefully September 17, 2021. Beloved husband of the late Gail M.
