His father, Matthew, was a former sportswriter for the Chicago Inter Ocean and was named Official Scorekeeper for Chicago Cubs during the Federal and National League era. Later was editor for Hospital Management and Founder of National Hospital Day on May 21, 1921 (Florence Nightingale’s birthday). He received an early discharge after 11 months of service. He graduated from the University of Illinois on June 12, 1950, with a BS in Management. On June 25, 1950, the Korean Conflict began, and he was redrafted for that conflict. He joined the US Air Force receiving direct appointment as a 2nd Lt in the Medical Service Corps. In 1952, he served 11 months in Seoul Korea (K16) as OIC and Liaison of the 801st detachment of Flight Nurses and corpsman responsible for Air Evacuation of serious wounded UN forces from front line MASH Units to military hospitals in Korea and Japan. His unit participated in the early release of UN seriously wounded POWs in Little Switch and all other UN POWs in Big Switch preceding the cease fire agreement. During his time in the military, Peter was awarded the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. Peter married Renée Kenyon in Bartlett, IL in December 1955. The pair would share almost 65 years together. They would also be blessed with six children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. During their summer vacations they took their six children on historic/scenic vacations in a Pop-up camper visiting 48 of the 50 states, Canada, and Mexico. He was a Certified Systems Professional (CSP) and retired from Bethlehem Steel and two compressor plants in Buffalo. He and his wife were active in charity, community, youth, and senior activities. During his spare time, Peter was an avid gardener, golfer, and big Buffalo Bills fan. Foley, Joseph Peter of Hamburg, NY passed August 15, 2021.
