Obituary of Michael David Allen

Michael Allen was a loving brother, a fierce friend, and a larger-than-life personality who lived how he wanted, with independence and dignity, right up until his final moments. Mike was born April 24,1959 to his Mom JoAnn Julian Allen, following his brother Joe as the second oldest in the growing family. He would be joined later by three more brothers: Paul, Eric, and Bobby, and a lifelong bond would be formed. When they were young, living off Camp Road in Hamburg, Mike would accompany his brothers to the Red Top for hot dogs, or on summertime trips down to Woodlawn beach for a swim in Lake Erie. On weekend nights they would go to Uncle Ron and Aunt Dorothy’s for dinner with their grandparents, cousins, and large extended family. Fish fries at Hoak’s, beef on weck at Schwabl’s, or pizza and wings on a Sunday afternoon watching football; good times with family in Buffalo always revolved around great food. The family would relocate to Elma when Mike was in his teenage years. He regularly joined his brothers and stepfather, Bob Allen, on hunting escapades in the woods, working in the yard, and hockey on the frozen creek where he was an outstanding goalie. These experiences fueled his lifelong love of nature and the outdoors. Mike graduated from Iroquois High School and studied business at Canisius College, where he once smuggled in his little brother Paul for a weekend on campus. His education and love of cars inspired him to pursue an automotive career, and his hard work and entrepreneurial mind culminated in Mike owning his own vehicle brokerage, which he successfully operated for many years. Mike loved the feeling of freedom and pursued his interests with enthusiastic abandon. After visiting his older brother in Cocoa Beach while Joe was serving in the Air Force, Mike developed an abiding affection for Florida and settled in Melborne, where he would reside for the rest of his days. He loved playing golf with a Slazenger #7, soaring the skies with his pilot license, or skimming across the Indian River on his sailboat. To Mike there was nothing better than enjoying a day outdoors with friends, except maybe watching his beloved Bills beat the Dolphins. Family was always important to Mike, and there was not anything he would not do for his brothers. In typical older brother fashion, he was constantly protective of his younger siblings and would defend them from anything he could. As he got older, he was equally as protective. Even if he did not always have a lot, he was generous and kind and gave whatever he could to those who were in need. Whether it was a close family member or a complete stranger, Mike was always trying to lift somebody’s spirits when they were down. In his later years Mike suffered from several ailments, but he never complained, and he never asked for help, treasuring his independence and dignity to the end. Mike was a kind and genuine person, passionate with a big heart, and the world is a little less bright without him. He will be greatly missed by all he touched. Michael David Allen passed away June 28th, 2021 in Orlando, Florida with his family at his side. He was 62 years old.
