Obituary of Larry Smith

Larry was known to all as a kind man with a huge heart who would do anything for anyone who needed it. The most important thing in his life was his family. He shared 50 wonderful years with his wife, Ann. The couple was blessed with two children, Jacqueline and Timothy. Eventually, the family grew to include 7 grandchildren: Ashley, Molly, Nolan, Ava, Jack, Gavin, and Ally. Larry adored his children and grandchildren and did everything he could to support them in all of their activities and endeavors. Even though Ann’s health declined in the last 13 years and required Larry to spend a lot of time and effort in caring for her, he never complained or asked for help. He truly was a selfless man who was happy to help and honored to care for his family in any way they needed him. A simple man who enjoyed simple things, maintaining a nice yard was one thing that Larry was very proud of. He had a green thumb and always had a yard full of beautiful flowers. The hummingbirds that enjoyed his flowers brought him and Ann a lot of joy. Larry worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for 37 years before retiring. He was also a 40-year member of Local 235 and worked as a ticket taker and usher for Bills games and the Buffalo Raceway. Being born and raised in Buffalo, he was a Bills fan through and through and loved to be able to catch their games. J.R.R Tolkien wrote, “It is no bad thing celebrating a simple life.” Larry knew to appreciate the little things in life and will be missed by many for his ability to make the most of life’s simple pleasures.
