Mary Farrell

Obituary of Mary V. Farrell

Mary Farrell was known to all as a friendly and personable woman, but one who also had a fiery streak if you crossed her! She was a fighter from the time she was born since she came into the world premature, weighing only 2 pounds. Born in Scotland, Mary met the love of her life David when she was 16 years old. David was in the U.S. Navy stationed in Scotland, and the two were married on August 6, 1971 in Campbeltown, Scotland, when she was just shy of her 18th birthday. The couple moved to Buffalo shortly after, which Mary was not very fond of at first. Eventually, after they settled in, she came to like the relative sunshine since Scotland was always very rainy and cloudy. The couple was blessed with four children; Patrick, Gladys, Maryanne, and Shawn. Their family eventually grew to include 5 grandchildren and Baby Jaxson, an extended family member, who was the closest thing to a great grandchild Mary ever had and who she loved spending time with. Mary and David had family and friends all over the country, so they loved their time together taking trips. In 2015, they decided to hop in their camper to drive across the country, traveling for several months. Mary's favorite part of the trip was going home to be reunited with her family ahead of the holidays. For their 40th wedding anniversary, they celebrated by going to Hawaii. Mary also frequently headed back to Scotland to visit her family there, and always had room in her home for any of her family that wished to visit her here. She was especially close to her sister Maureen, and loved to visit and chat with her over a cup of hot tea. When not traveling, Mary loved to flower garden. It was known that she had a "green thumb,” a talent that she undoubtedly honed while working at a greenhouse for a time. Mary also worked at West Seneca School District cleaning rooms after school was over. There she met many friends and enjoyed going to work every day. Her favorite job, however, was at Seneca Manor, where she worked as the Activities Leader. She loved getting to know the residents there and knowing she was helping enrich their lives. In her quiet time, Mary enjoyed listening to her favorite music on Oldies 104. Other hobbies of Mary's included going to garage sales, playing bingo, collecting bells and angels, and trying her luck at the casinos. She enjoyed shopping at Good Will and Bon-Ton, where she loved to find a good bargain. She will be greatly missed by everyone she touched. Farrell, Mary V.
