Obituary of Susan Marie Steinhilber

Susan Marie Steinhilber was an incredibly generous woman whose doors were open to anyone who needed her. Susan had a big heart and often gave to any charitable organization she could, especially those surrounding Vietnam War Veterans and Disabled Veterans. Overall, Susan enjoyed having a good time with those she loved. Family was an essential part of Susan's life. A Buffalo native, Susan was born to Leo and Gertrude Plaza and grew up with three siblings: Gary, Debbie, and Donna. Susan started her own family after she met Neil Steinhilber. Neil, recently discharged in Hawaii from the Marine Corps, happened to park in a spot that was right in front of where Susan would take her breaks at the commercial laundry where they both worked. After spotting his Hawaii plates, Susan joked about why anyone would move here from Hawaii. The pair began talking and quickly fell in love. Neil promptly became a significant part of her life, even developing a deep bond with her three-year-old daughter, Melissa, happily becoming her father. The couple would then welcome another daughter, Michelle. Susan was even more delighted at the addition of her five grandchildren. She adored being a grandmother and often had her grandchildren stay over on the weekends. Susan never missed an opportunity to have her family gather together, always insisting on holding all major holidays at her home. An excellent hostess, Susan made sure to deck out the house in decorations, especially for Christmas, and ensuring there was always a huge feast to be shared. A great example was Easter when Susan would prepare a huge Polish meat feast. Despite her great love for laundry, which always smelled the absolute best, Susan had jobs other than the commercial laundry she enjoyed. A talented painter and artist, Susan owned her own ceramics business for years, where she taught classes to those hoping to learn the craft. She also took her civil service exam with Neil and moved into corrections for a short period. After that, she ended her career at the Department of Labor as an administrative assistant for ten years. When Susan wasn't raising her family or working, she had lots of activities that she enjoyed. Susan loved to dance and could always be seen on the dancefloor at every wedding or family event. She also listened to music and danced while she cleaned, resulting in a few blow Bose speakers. Her children remember being woken up to Don Johnson's "Heartbeat." Other favorites include Patsy Klein, Kenny Rogers, Bon Jovi, George Strait, Eric Clapton, ACDC, Adele, and Motown classics. Her love of music also introduced her to her favorite musical, Phantom of the Opera, which she got to see with Michelle. If all else failed, one could find Susan enjoying the Cleveland Indians game or off on one of her many weekend trips with family and friends. Susan will be remembered for her generous and loving heart, artistic talents, and ability to ensure everyone had a good time. She will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
