Obituary of Robert J. Burch

Robert J. Burch, loving known as "Bubba," "Big Bob," and simply "Bob," was an incredibly generous man with a unique sense of humor. Bob would do anything for anyone and seemed always to be there when you needed him. He was also known to be very opinioned, especially about topics he was passionate about, like politics. He stood his ground and liked to push people's buttons in a friendly fashion. The most significant part of Bob's life was his family. Bob's family began when he met Joan. He was on a double date where his date was Joan's friend, Lucy. By chance, Joan had driven Lucy's car to work one day, and Bob stopped in to see Lucy. However, he met Joan once more instead. The two hit it off. After joining the National Guard, Bob would marry Joan in June 1964, sharing almost 57 beautiful years. The pair soon welcome five wonderful children into their lives and soon four grandchildren. Bob adored his family and wanted to be involved in their lives, often speaking to his loved ones on the phone like clockwork. Whenever possible, Bob would spend time with his family, whether this was trips to Chinese buffets for crab legs, stops at Burger King, or visiting the beach. He even was known to give good advice. One of his sayings that stuck with his children was, "Why worry about something that hasn't happened yet." He felt blessed and proud of who his family has grown to become. When not spending time with his family, he worked various jobs. Bob was proud of a job well done, possessing a strong work ethic. Most of his career was spent at Derrick Manufacturing in Cheektowaga as an assemblyman. When not working or spending time with family, Bob had various hobbies. He enjoyed baseball and pitched in minor league baseball in the 1960s as a young man. He played for the Detroit Tigers teams such as the Decatur Commodores, Jamestown Tigers, and the Montgomery Rebels. Bob had a chance to go to the major league but opted to spend his youth enjoying life. He was partial to Facebook Marketplace and Zillow. One could usually find Bob on his IPad, looking for the best deals on things his family needed or at various homes on Zillow. When he wasn't telling his children how much their homes were worth, he joked that he could "fly" by looking at all the houses in an area by the aerial view option. On top of everything else, Bob also looked forward to talking to his best friend, Ron Schiller, on the phone every day. Bob will be remembered for his giving heart and his love for his family. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him. Burch, Robert J. March 19, 2021 of West Seneca, NY.
