Obituary of Ruth Edwards

Ruth Edwards lived a life of zest and independence, and her feisty nature and warm heart was something her family could not get enough of. Ruth was born and raised right in South Buffalo in an Irish-German household. She was extremely bright, so much so that she was accepted into the University of Michigan for Pre-med back in the 1940s. But when she met the love of her life, Bill Edwards, life had other plans for her. Instead, the two wed in 1948, and together they raised their two children, Barbara and Paul. Ruth took her smarts, however, and applied them to a two-year certificate program at Bryant-Stratton for business, becoming an integral part of the staff at Frontier Central School. She worked her way up from serving in the cafeteria to a senior clerk typist by the time she retired! She was loved by the students and staff and had many fond memories of her years at Frontier. Ruth also lived a life of many passions. one of her biggest passions was involvement in the community. Not only was she a staple at the school, but she and Bill were integral in the leadership of the Lake Shore Little League for many years. Whenever she would walk into a restaurant, people knew exactly what she was going to order, how she liked her meal, and where she would sit. She had a hard time sitting still, going from reading with her book club, rooting for the bills with her football club, to golfing with Bill, and exploring the world in places like Africa, Ireland, Italy, and Alaska with Barbara just to name a few. She was also an avid bowler and would frequent St. Francis and Briarwood for a game or two. More than anything, Ruth loved her family with all her heart. She treasured being able to meet all of her great-grandchildren in her time, and cherished the time spent when family could come together. Even though it hurts to lose someone as unique as “Ruthie”, she had a full life of experiences and treasured moments that her loved ones will carry with them forever.
