Obituary of Kenneth R. Walsh

Kenneth R. Walsh, affectionately known as "Ken or Kenny," was a private, resilient, talented, and loving man who would do anything for the people he cared about in his life. Ken’s work ethic was legendary as was his stubbornness, especially when he believed in something. As the proud owner of KRW Construction, Ken specialized in custom construction and remodeling for most of his adult life. His fingerprints of contribution will endure for decades throughout the many homes and offices he improved. As a perfectionist with attention to detail, Ken took pride in providing customers with “one of a kind” craftmanship. His projects often became conversation topics for others. Ken loved to feel productive and to make his customers smile with appreciation. Ken’s work brought him the gift of 15 wonderful years with his best friend Jamal. In recent years, Ken met Tracy, the love of his life. The pair met through Tracy's nephew, who worked for Ken at the time. A true gentleman from the very beginning, Ken was respectfully “old fashioned” with Tracy. People always noticed that Ken would light up whenever he talked about her. Ken developed a special bond with each of Tracy’s kids. Ken modeled his selfless, giving nature in his relationship with Tracy and the kids. Fifteen years ago, Ken rekindled a very important childhood relationship with Mary Rose Gaughan. Mary Rose helped Ken in profound ways, at an important inflection point in Ken’s life. She and her husband, Dennis Gaughan generously welcomed Ken into their home and he quickly became an extended family member. Ken cherished his relationships with their kids, as he witnessed them growing up and heading out in the world as young adults. Ken had several passions in life. He loved music and often reminisced about his many concert experiences. Ken appreciated the waterfront and could be found relaxing at The Hatch in the warm summer months. Ken was a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan, enjoying focused time with loved ones and great Western New York food. Ken’s standard attire was a Bill’s hat, jeans, and possibly a Carhart jacket. Ken liked working on engines and sheet metal too, having restored several cars and trucks throughout the years. He was a gifted artist who could draw magnificently but humbly did not share his talent with many. He also loved building scaled car models and did so with exquisite detail. Ken grew up in Buffalo before his family relocated to East Aurora during his teenage years. Ken played hockey and raced cars at Holland Speedway. He also spent many years cutting a lot of grass and moving a lot of snow. Ken had abnormally high stamina for walking, and often made trips by foot between the south towns and Buffalo. Some of Ken’s self-described “best years” were traveling around the country every weekend to the motocross races with his brothers Joe and Dave. These trips gave the entire family much high-quality time together. Ken put his leg over a few dirt bikes too and even raced for a season or two. Ken was always camera-shy, so many of these highpoints in life have gone undocumented. Ken prided himself on taking the road less traveled. He didn’t have bank accounts, credit cards, or measure the value of his life through material possessions. Ken always approached life “his way” and courageously bucked the status quo. Ken persevered and always did the best he could, regardless of the challenges he faced. He will be missed by family, friends, and everyone he touched. Walsh, Kenneth R. Suddenly February 11, 2021. Beloved partner of Tracy Tenhagen; loving son of the late Frank and late Shirley Walsh; devoted brother of Robin Rackl, Joseph (Christine Homer) Walsh, and David (Sarah Koontz) Walsh; cherished friend of Corey, Jordan, Alex, Brooklynne, Lillian, and Jaxson; dear friend of Mary Rose, Charles, Dennis, Joseph, and the late Dennis Gaughan; best friend of Jamal; also survived by nieces and nephews.
