Mathilda Brandl Hill
November 16, 1926-January 15, 2021
Mathilda, the daughter of Michael Brandl and Mary Fassl Brandl, went home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2021 with 94 years of life behind her. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Hill, her son, Reverend Mark Hill, and her sister, Charlotte Sheehan. She is survived by her children Marie Perini (Richard), Lynne Hill (Mark), Jennifer Sandino (Michael) and Robert Hill (Kathleen), as well as 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Hilda worked for the New York Telephone Company (later AT&T) as a long distance telephone operator for 49 ½ years, retiring only when her office became fully automated. She was a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and served as a member of the Management Team Advisory Board, travelling across the region and the nation meeting with executives to provide suggestions that would benefit both customers and employees. In her time with the company, Hilda saw the role of telephone operator evolve greatly and she was eager to learn new methods of operation, even with the inherent challenges. She became adept with technology, a skill that served her throughout her later years.
Hilda was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish in West Seneca, where she participated in annual Mission retreats and Bible studies, as well as the Social Committee. She was an accomplished seamstress and, in her later years, became an avid quilter, constructing beautiful works that she shared with her family.
Her examples of dedication and hard work have been an inspiration to her family. She faced many challenges in her life but emerged from them all with grace and a determination to proceed. She will be missed, but we will see her soon.
Hilda’s family would like to thank the staff at Elderwood in Lancaster for their continuing care over this past year. A memorial service will be held in the spring to honor her life.
