Obituary of Gretchen L. DeMeo
Gretchen, affectionately known as “Lady Godiva” as a child, was an incredibly social woman larger than life. Everyone knew when Gretchen entered a room. One of the most extensive parts of Gretchen’s life was her family. She was incredibly proud of her three children: Gabriella, Jack, and Isabella. Gretchen was known for talking about her children to anyone who would listen and always documented everything through photos. While she often joked that she never thought she would become a “hockey mom,” Gretchen never missed a sporting event. Her family was complete with her loyal dog, Mario. When Gretchen wasn’t attending her children’s sporting events, planning great parties, or working as an event planner for Fisher-Price, she kept busy with all of her hobbies. Gretchen enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and was famous for her hot pepper jelly, homemade gnocchi, broccoli cheddar soup, and peanut butter cookies with Hershey kisses. However, Gretchen loved to make and eat spicy foods, known for ordering the scorching “Ghost Wings.” Her love for new spicy foods always caused her to go searching for the next best place. When she wasn’t enjoying a new restaurant, Gretchen was an excellent swimmer and enjoyed going to the pool. Starting as a competitive swimmer in high school and into college, Gretchen swam her whole life. Her love for swimming and the water also manifested in her love for traveling to various beaches and jet skiing. Gretchen often visited her cottage at Crystal Beach for this reason. Gretchen also tried to attend many music events. Some of her favorite artists being the Goo Goo Dolls, Pink, Kesha, Super Tramp, and the Bare-Naked Ladies. However, despite her active and social lifestyle, Gretchen was always up for lazy days in her pajamas, watching movies on Netflix, and browsing Facebook. Gretchen was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Sophia Loren once said that, “The most indispensable ingredient of all good home cooking: love for those you are cooking for.” DeMeo, Gretchen L.
