Obituary of Dorothy M. Gifford

Dorothy Gifford was a family-focused, incredible mother of 8 children, 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. A devoted wife of 61 years to her beloved husband, Edsel, a railroad man originally from Detroit. The couple met at a Christmas party hosted by Dorothy’s cousin, and the two were inseparable ever since. Dorothy spent most of her adult life as a stay-at-home mother, devoting most of her days to caring for her children, especially her daughter with disabilities, Patricia. She loved to cook and bake for her family, providing three home-cooked meals daily. She was known for her special treats like sweet rolls, holiday cookies, and homemade jams and chili sauces made from berries picked with her children. Family bonding was essential and never ceased to leave a smile on Dorothy’s face. Road trips, picnics, camping, and yearly trips to Rainbow Lake and The Adirondacks were favorite pass times. Summers involved more family time with trips to the family summer home at Snyder Beach and their time-share at Peek N’ Peak. Dorothy was so involved with her family that birthdays were also a large celebration with Dorothy even having everyone wear birthday hats to recognize the big day. As Dorothy aged, she spent a lot of her time babysitting her grandchildren. When not traveling or babysitting her loved ones, Dorothy had many hobbies. She was an avid organ player who took lessons for years. She also loved to knit and crochet, especially afghans for every child and grandchild. When not babysitting, taking her organ lessons, or crafting, Dorothy could be found bowling with her husband or listening to music. Gifford, Dorothy M.
