Nicé Braun was a very loving mother who was generous, selfless, empathetic, and sensitive. Everyone knew her by her first name only, “Nicé,” like “Cher.” A fighter, always rooting for the underdog and would give you the shirt off her back. After the passing of her parents as a young teenager, Nicé moved to Buffalo to live with an aunt she never met. Two of her siblings went to Detroit to live with another aunt, and one sibling was old enough to live independently.
Nicé, a stay at home mom, was incredibly involved with her four children, Ronald, Kenneth (deceased), Steven, and Renee. She was always there for her children and grandchildren, helping with homework and raising Renee’s three boys. A fantastic Italian cook, known for her lasagna and healthy soup; she never followed a recipe. She could always make something out of whatever she had on hand. In addition to a fantastic cook, Nice loved to bake pies. Her and Renee would go berry picking to add a special touch to those pies. Nicé’s door was always open. Anyone could walk in, Including her son’s friends like the late Leo and Angelo Butera.
While being a devoted Mom and Grandma, Nice also was a very special part of the family jewelry business in Blasdell, NY for over 40 years where she also pioneered the first seasonal Easter chocolate store in 1976. She loved caring for her customer family, helping create tradition and warm memories for many.
A special memory Renee had of her mom was when she was studying in Europe, she couldn’t readily find chocolate chip cookies. Nicé sent her a care package, with all the ingredients to make them. Renee became so well known by post office staff from her weekly care packages.
Nice will be greatly missed by her family and friends and remembered by all she touched.
