Sarah Herman

Obituary of Sarah Rose Herman

Sarah was a wonderful gift to those in her life, and was always positive and outgoing. She was a great listener, and no matter what she did it came from her heart. When Sarah’s parents came over from Naples, they were among the first generations of Italians that came here. As they came over, they moved to the West Side of Buffalo, where she eventually met her husband while he was working. The two hit it off and were married before long, then set themselves to the task of building a home and a family in South Buffalo. They raised 9 children together; James, Michael, Nancy, John, Steven, Margaret, Thomas, Joseph, and Paula. Education was very important to Sarah, having obtained a bookkeeping degree from Hutchison Central High School. She imparted the value of pursuing a higher education and career to her children, who all went on to obtain college degrees and have successful careers themselves. The three most important lessons her kids learned were honesty, hard work, and how to balance a checkbook. Sarah was tirelessly hard-working, and extremely well-organized. She always had a plan for each day to ensure that everything that needed to be done in her busy life were taken care of. Family was the most important part of her life, and she was very proud of her kids accomplishments. Her children blessed her with 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Family reunions were always a highlight for her! The family regularly did Sunday picnics at Elma Meadows with their aunts and uncles and their children. Everyone knew when their family had arrived as they all piled out of all five doors in the station wagon! They also went camping at Rainbow Lake in East Otto, where the kids would gather up anyone they could find to play volleyball with them. In her down time, Sarah enjoyed a nice game of golf, bowling, or cards with her family or friends, the best part of which was always the company she offered and her great listening skills. She was an avid reader who went through books in droves, and also liked to watch the Bills and Sabres games. Baking was a special hobby of hers, and she especially enjoyed baking holiday treats for everyone around Christmas. Sarah was a truly special woman with an amazing spirit who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Herman, Sarah Rose “Sally” November 5, 2020 of Buffalo, NY.
