Obituary of Richard Albert Bird

Richard was a dedicated and hard-working business owner who did everything he could to build a successful business for his family. Richard graduated from Cleveland Hill High School, where he was a very talented basketball and saxophone player. He even formed a band, The Royal Tones, with his fellow schoolmates. He then went on to attend Bob Jones University in South Carolina to earn a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He met the love of his life, Carol Shanahan, while attending a church function, and the two have celebrated 57 wonderful years as a pair. Together, the two of them worked hard raising their family; Richard, Patricia, and Sandra. If there was one thing that he truly had a passion for, it was his work. Richard became the owner of Gamble Printing & Mailing, Inc. in Hamburg, NY in 1977. He poured his heart and soul into everything he did there by building a successful business to leave to his family to continue to run. While work was very important to him, he also very much enjoyed a round of golf with friends and family and watching local sports teams. Richard and his family were long time summer residents at Rushford Lake and then Long Beach, Canada. Richard was a strong leader and will be remembered for all the memories and lasting life lessons he has taught. Bird, Richard A. July 23, 2020, age 79, of Hamburg, NY. Beloved husband of Carol J. Bird (nee Shanahan); devoted father of Richard, the late David, Patricia (Peter) Witting, and Sandra (Walter) Palczewski; cherished grandfather of Matthew (Mulvaney), Ryan, Lauren Witting, Joshua, Tyler, Owen, Ethan, Ella, and Austin Palczewski; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
