Obituary of Gerald Edward Dobson
Gerald Dobson, affectionately known as Jerry was always up for a challenge and pushed himself to learn to the be the best at whatever he tried. As a young man he joined the Coast Guard. He signed up for mounted ship guns or any firearm teams available. He continued in life with his passion for competition. Jerry traveled to Germany in 1973 to compete in the NYS International Marksmanship Team. Jerry was a past president in the early 70s at Allied Sportsman of WNY. The Certification of NRA Safety Class and NRA Class C coach instructor was a way to teach others the skills and goals of a sport he so admired. Jerry was a member of the Boston Valley Conservation Society where he ran Rifle Leagues and Air Pistol Leagues with his wife, Betty. With many years of Adirondack hiking and canoeing, he turned to Lake Erie and sailed multiple types of sailboats out of Dunkirk Harbor. He acquired a 50 Ton Master License of the Great Lakes and had volunteered on the Excalibur boat out of Buffalo. Jerry Retired from National Fuel in 1993 as a training supervisor after 34 years of service. Jerry will be remembered as an intelligent man who loved history and helping anyone do a project. Being outdoors and working hard was his fun. He was a friend to so many and will be missed. Dobson, Gerald “Jerry” Edward May 6, 2020 of Hamburg, NY. Beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Paul) Dobson; devoted father of Kevin (Catherine) Dobson and Kim Dobson (Larry Friedman); cherished grandfather of Cole Roberts; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
