Thomas, affectionately known as “The Mayer” and “Papa” was a very creative man who was always there to help anyone in need. He was a family man who was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, Charlotte and Noah, and enjoyed spending time with his godchildren. Thomas met his wife Sandy during a double date. Her friend that she worked with was Thomas’s date, though the two decided they liked each other better! He would drive Sandy to work at Buffalo General and eventually the two completely hit it off. They married on June 12th, an easy date to remember as it was a month before Sandy’s birth date. She recalls many lovely, some silly anniversary gifts over the years. They even worked together, though when Thomas retired before Sandy, he missed her every single day.
Throughout his life Thomas worked for a few different companies. For nearly twenty years he was a welder at Republic Steel, built radiators at Delavan Auto Parts and then at Buffalo China with Sandy.
Thomas was a skilled carpenter who was known for making unique mailboxes. He even made a cow mailbox that moo’ed, eventually painting several pieces in cow print as a running joke. He was very handy and loved remodeling, even designing the ponds around their home. Thomas had an affinity for old cars and very much enjoyed observing nature outside the home such as the deer passing through and birds in the trees.
The goldfinch is Thomas’s favorite bird. It is said if a goldfinch crosses your path, they are there to remind you enjoy life and savor each moment for the joy that is in it. When you see one, think of Thomas, and smile.
