Obituary of Irene M. Romanowski
Irene was a private and minimalist woman who always enjoyed her alone time. However, any opportunity to spend time with her family, especially her 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, was a treat. She enjoyed hosting holiday dinners and playing cards with her grandchildren. Born in Breslau, Germany in 1925, Irene grew up in a time of conflict. During her later teenage years, she bravely escaped Germany and ended up living in China. While in China, she met her late husband Harry, who was stationed in China due to his military service. The two were soon married in July of 1946. Shortly after, the two would travel separately to start a life and family in the United States later that same year. The two enjoyed many years together before his passing a few years prior. Irene enjoyed many hobbies throughout her 94 years. Sewing, attending the opera and community plays, going out dancing, and traveling trips with her husband to Florida kept Irene busy. Irene was also known for her love for Penguins and Chipmunks and her major sweet tooth. Her children, Robert and Renee, remember her always saying she had to “watch the chocolate” despite no need and her chipmunk-like face when she ate it. Overall, Irene will be remembered most for her foodie habits. Irene loved everything about food. She loved cooking and baking for her family, and most of all, she loved eating a good meal. Other than chocolate, mushroom crepes were a personal favorite. Irene was never one to say no to a good meal and a new treat to try. Romanowski, Irene (nee Lorch) March 16, 2020 of Cheektowaga, NY.
