Obituary of Alice Marie Lubkowski

Alice was born in 1925 in Buffalo, New York. She grew up alongside three sisters and a brother, with parents who owned a general store. At an early age she learned financial responsibility as her mother put her in charge of the penny candy at their shop! Alice attended high school at Villa Maria Academy where she was valedictorian of her graduating class and went on to work for New York Central railroad. She met her husband, Emil, and they married at Queen of Martyrs Church. Her faith was very important to her as she said the rosary every day and was a member of Ladies Sodality. Alice left the workforce to become a full-time stay at home mother to raise her pride and joy; four beautiful children. She loved planning family vacations and they even took a trip to see the World’s Fair in 1964. Teaching her children finances and budgeting was important to Alice, as it was to her parents; all her children were paper boys and girls from a young age. Her words of comfort that still hold true through in her children’s minds was always “This too shall pass.” When Alice was young, she enjoyed sewing and often made her own drapes and dresses. Her and Emil enjoyed gardening very much. They had a heart shaped flower garden and a big vegetable garden. She would often boil down homegrown grapes to make her family handcrafted grape juice. They both loved growing tomatoes and canning them, frequently making their own sauce! Alice made an awesome lasagna with this. She was all around a great cook, teaching her children and their spouses how to cook as well! They loved her roast beef with gravy too. When her children were little and would learn about different countries in school, she would indulge them by learning to cook a regional dish, to further stimulate their educational curiosities. Even though she was a triumphant cook, she still relished in the simplicity of her favorite snacks, popcorn and pretzels. In Alice’s later years, she enjoyed traveling with Emil. They vacationed and cruised to places like Hawaii, Mississippi, Las Vegas and Virginia to see the family. Alice loved casinos! She used to say that the sounds and lights was a “diversion from everything else.” Lubkowski, Alice M. (nee Delewski) passed away on January 19, 2020 of Harrisonburg, Va formerly of West Seneca, NY.
