Walter Zoladz was a man who led a very simple life. He was a hard working and dedicated family man who always put his family first. He adored his wife, children, and his granchildren. Walter would give the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was selfless. He was a man of many skills. Throughout his life he was always willing to help others by building and repairing a multitude of things for them. When something needed to be done, he was the “go to” man. Walter had a heart of gold!
Walter built his family home where he and his wife, Pat, have resided for over 60 years!. His hard work and dedication to his family owned lumber business, the Walter Zoladz Lumber Company, gave him the expertise to build the beautiful ranch on Lakeshore Road in Hamburg. Walter worked 6 days a week while running the family lumber business after the death of his father. He continued this work ethic throughout his career by managing the Walter Zoladz Lumber Company, and the Forbush Lumber Company. He knew the business and was well respected for his skills and knowledge.
Walter was married to Patricia for 60 years. The commited couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past May. In his later years, he took care of Patricia who has suffered with a chronic wound condition. Throughout their marriage, they were always there for each other. They both loved to be poolside and travel to Siesta Key, Florida in the winter months so they could enjoy the sunny beach. Every Saturday was dedicated to spending the evening at church and dinner with Patricia.
In Walter’s spare time you could find him tinkering in his backyard while admiring a shrine of the Blessed Mother. It was lit up and would shine like the stars at night. Being a devoted Catholic, he would say his rosary every night before he went to bed. In addition, he was a man who loved humor. Walter was known for his jovial personality and his love of cracking a joke here and there, and there, and there. He loved to kid around and make people laugh. He would enjoy watching the Dean Martin roasts with such guests as Don Rickles, Sammy Davis Jr. and many of the old comedians. He could be heard laughing from the family room while wiping tears of laughter from his eyes.
Walter will be dearly missed by all that knew him. He would want us all to have a little more humor in our lives, a donut on our plate, and a glass of port wine at cocktail hour. He would want us to be happy.
