Barbara grew up on a small family farm in Pennsylvania, and moved to Buffalo when she was 12. She met her husband, Edward, when they lived down the street from each other. They spent many wonderful years together, and had five children: Paula, Edward, Peggy, Michael, and Patty. This time with her young kids were the best years of Barbara’s life. She and Edward were eventually blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom Barbara adored.
Being a nurse was one of Barbara’s life goals, and she completed her LPN at 45 and became an RN at 50. She worked at Mercy Hospital. In her words, she chose to become a nurse because her mother told her not to. She may have had a little stubborn streak, and would not be told what to do by anyone!
When she wasn’t working or spending time with her family, Barbara loved volunteering at the Botanical Gardens, spending time in her own garden, reading history and Sci-Fi novels, and playing Scrabble and Pinochle. She also loved to eat! Her favorites were Mexican food, Ted’s Hot Dogs, and Fran Ceil’s custard. Barbara will be remembered as a woman who loved life, and made the most of it.
