Eugene had a somewhat dry sense of humor but in a funny way known by his friends and family as “Beaver”.

He was a very handy man and his son-in-law Daniel said he was the smartest man he ever knew. Eugene married the love of his life June and started a family. Eugene could figure out anything mechanical. He could take apart cars and put them back together with ease. He would always fix anyone’s washing machines or anything they needed fixed. Eugene built a cottage at Snyder Beach with his wife by themselves and were both very proud. He taught his four children Suzanne, Ellen, William and Eugene how to build and fix things as well. Eugene also loved to make stained glass. He would make each child a stained-glass sailboat and replicas of their houses. Eugene also made the stained-glass door for the historic Swannie House in The Old First Ward. Eugene was in the Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant from 1943-1946 earning the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a decorated City of Buffalo Firefighter and rescued a woman from a burning building on O’Connell Street, which earned him the Buffalo Fire Department Association Award for Bravery. He was a devoted Catholic who grew up in South Buffalo and migrated to West Seneca. His wife June and himself spent the last 25 year traveling to Florida together for the winters. Eugene was also a resident of Snyder Beach for 60 years, an avid fisherman and handyman. You would often find Eugene listening to Louie Armstrong and one of his favorite songs…What a Wonderful World. He was the proudest of the successes of his 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and loved their company most of all. He will be dearly missed by his family friends and loved ones.
