Maryann was a passionate woman and put 100% into everything she did. She loved helping people in any way that she could. Maryann was also extremely intelligent and graduated high school two years early.
Maryann was a Buffalo Police Officer earlier in life and was recruited by the FBI but turned it down. She earned a degree in Sociology from Buffalo State College and then became an LPN. She ended up going back to school to earn her RN. Maryann was an active duty nurse in the Persian Gulf and returned to serve in the Army Reserves. She also was a nurse at the VA working with psychiatric patients. The work she did was very difficult, but it was worth it to her because she knew she was helping people. Mary gave birth to her daughter Olivia and she became her whole world. Maryann and Olivia were extremely close, and she dedicated her life to providing everything Olivia needed. Maryann was very attached to her pets. When Olivia was born, she was close with her sisters’ dog Samson, and the dog became Olivia’s guardian. Maryann hated cats but Olivia started feeding a stray and she fell in love with him, they brought them into their home and named him Mr. Kitty. When Maryann found out she had cancer, when she first came home, she found a stray with four feral kittens. Even though she was sick, she took care of them and brought them into her home to live. Maryann also loved birds and had a big bird feeder; a heated bird feeder and she would put out peanuts for the bluebirds. Maryann loved to travel. One of her favorite places to visit was Cape Cod. She went there as a child and began bringing Olivia there when she was little. They also visited Disney World and had breakfast with the princesses in the castle. She loved to go to the Eire County Fair every year. Maryann brought Olivia there when she was only 11 days old, and went every year taking a picture at gate 6 to remember their times. They would also go to Hamburg Beach a lot to sit and have a cup of coffee in the summer. Maryann also loved to garden and enjoyed picking out plants in the Spring to plant in her garden. She loved dragonflies and became a very important part of her life. Maryann loved their beauty and they reminded her of her mother. She told Olivia “whenever you see a dragonfly, you know that I am with you.” Maryann’s passion and love will be truly missed by her family, friends and loved ones.
