Obituary of John P. Cummings

John was the life of any party, and his personality was larger than life. Whether he was teaching himself to play the keyboard or bowling a 300 on his 49th birthday, John was truly a man of many talents. No matter where he was, everyone in the room wanted to be sitting at his table so they could listen to his hilarious stories or his witty one-liners. Even after losing his leg, he never lost his sense of humor, but the greatest love of John’s life was harness racing. He was even known as a Horseman’s Horseman for how well he got along with everyone at the track. Everyone in racing went to him for advice, usually when he was “holding court” in the track kitchen. John was a member of the United States Trotting Association and the WNY Harness Horseman’s Association, and he won Trainer of the Year twice.

John and his beloved Lallah were blessed with their 5 children by the time he was 24 years old, and he wanted to teach his family everything he knew about life. He raised all his sons to be in harness racing, and they trusted his know-how so much that they never made a move without talking to him first.
