Mary Ann Mangan

Obituary of Mary Ann Mangan

Mary Ann was always a lot of fun and had an amazing sense of humor. Some say she had a memory like a steel trap. Mary Ann had the gift of gab and would strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere, making strangers into lifelong friends.

Mary Ann grew up in Blasdell with her sisters Johanna and Dorothy and enjoyed good times with her many cousins in the Putich family. She lived most of her adult life in Lackawanna where she raised her two adopted daughters, Mary Jean and Ellen, with her husband Gene Burke, and then in Hamburg with her husband Pat, with whom she enjoyed 35 joy-filled years of marriage. She welcomed and became a second mom to Pat's two children, Paddy and Lizabeth. Pat and Mary Ann enjoyed going to church at St. Mary of the Lake every Saturday, and then going out for dinner and a drink at McKenzie's. Mary Ann was a very frugal woman, frequenting garage sales looking for a bargain. She loved sharing her founded treasures with others. Mary Ann liked using coupons and would stock up on sales for herself and to donate for food drives. She loved playing games like gin rummy, doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, and doing crossword puzzles every day. She was an avid Sabres fan, and watched her favorite game show Jeopardy every night. She was a trivia whiz! Her love of games and sports tied in with her job at Off-Track Betting where her connection really grew with her husband Patrick. Mary Ann loved to cook and always had something prepared to offer her visitors. Mary Ann had five grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She picked out cards for every occasion, even those not so well known, to send to them to brighten their day. When she wasn’t playing games or cooking, she loved to socialize, attending the local Serbian picnic, Irish festivals, and the Eden Corn Festival. Traveling was also a loved hobby, enjoying day trips in the area, as well as visiting her kids and going to places like Florida, the Finger Lakes, Ireland, Spain, and Germany. Her fun-loving, bright and bubbly spirit will be lovingly missed by family, friends, and loved ones.
