Obituary of David J. Schmidle
David was a very caring, generous, helpful and friendly man. He couldn’t go anywhere without making a new friend or knowing someone. David was proud to serve in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and continued with the National Guard. David always took pride in his Veteran service and what Veterans had sacrificed for our country. He finished his career with the Air Force with honorable discharge and a staff rank of Sargent and enjoyed many years of socializing at American Legion Posts 361, 537 and 735, The VFW and The Fraternal Order of Eagles.
David was always willing to help anyone, and always seemed to have the right tool to fix anything or offer the right advice to fix it whether you liked it or not. David grew up in West Seneca and at one time owned a full-service gas station close to his childhood home. With his great love of cars, hot rods and drag racing, his shelf was adorned with racing trophy’s and NASCAR paraphernalia, especially if it was anything Dale Earnhardt. Growing up David was involved in sports like hockey and baseball. He enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team, the NY Yankees and always supported his hometown teams the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. David made it to every one of the Bills Super Bowls and seemed to always have luck winning money in the pools. David also loved to be outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening. He also had a great love for boating and being on the water. You would always tend to find him on a boat at one of his favorite places like Chautauqua Lake and of course Florida.
Most of all David’s family was the most important part of his life. After marrying, he and his wife Karen started a family, having several children and grandchildren. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren so that he could pass on his wisdom and teach them everything that he knew. David was full of life, a hard worker, family man and great friend. After almost 53 years of marriage, David passed away on his wife Karen’s birthday, leaving her with hope they will one day be reunited again.
