Paul Murphy

Obituary of Paul James Murphy

Paul was a loving and caring family man, devout Catholic, and an avid music enthusiast. As a hands-on boss, Paul worked for Buffalo State College as a supervisor and department head of facilities maintenance and custodial operations, overseeing various aspects of the college campus. Being a boss meant he wouldn’t make anyone do anything he, himself, wouldnt do first. Paul was actively involved in his faith and church. He participated in and served as a member of the Holy Name Society, Eucharistic Minister, Pre-Cana Instructor, Religious Education and Confirmation Teacher, and Bingo Chairman.

Music was Paul's life when he wasn’t pre-occupied with work and family. Being a self-taught musician, he played several instruments, but the drums were his passion. Collecting music such as reel-to-reel, vinyl records, CD’s, and digital downloads, Paul couldn’t get enough. His band in the mid 70's, Mourning Cloud, played classic rock tunes from Genesis, Led Zeppelin, and Moody Blues, to name a few. He always had to have a great stereo system and was a pro with audio visual equipment. If you needed it hooked up, Paul was there. Having access to the Music Department at Buffalo State sometimes allowed Paul to jam out on their drums, especially putting on a show for his daughter, as well as his employees and co-workers, on Bring Your Child To Work Day. He loved to get some time on the set, even if he had to remind himself and them that it was time to get back to work.
