Jim was a sweet, kind and gentle man who everyone turned to for help. The youngest of his siblings, but often considered the strongest in any situation. Bettyann met her beloved Jim the night he was discharged from the Navy at a local bar. She knew he was the one the moment she saw him. They had been married 62 years on September 15 of 2018.
Babies and animals would gravitate toward Jim. Once, when his granddaughter Katherine was having a meltdown, she was placed in Jim’s lap and she immediately stopped crying. From there, the two were inseparable.
Jim had an exciting career with the U.S. Navy, serving during both World War II on the U.S.S. Wyoming and being at the helm of the U.S.S. Wisconsin during the Korean War. In fact, he said he had circled this whole planet many times. His favorite seaport to visit was always Scotland during that time.
After he was discharged and settled down with Bettyann he was happy to keep his feet on solid ground. He enjoyed anything he could repair or create with his hands. Jim was regarded as an instinctive genius. Much of his free time was spent tending to his parklike yard or working on his house. Jim took much pride in his home and it showed. He was a salt of the earth type of guy you only meet once in a lifetime. To send flowers to the family of James Barren, please visit Tribute Store
