Obituary of Donald W. Currie, Jr.
Donald was a one of a kind man. A man who you don’t come across so often anymore. He had a way of making a bad day, good. He cracked jokes, maybe at the wrong time, but it was always needed. Don would give you the shirt off his back, but also use his many talents to help anyone in need. In his younger years don is remembered as not just a friend, but a best friend to many. One can say, he was there through the highest of the highs and the darkest lows of one's life. With a beer in one hand and his euchre hand in the other, he would listen. And damn, he would give the best advice. Any one in Boston knew of Don as he grew up. Not much is needed to tell you why, if you knew him. He was always one for adventure. Eventually, his children became his adventure.
Many years in his life he could be seen drywalling many houses throughout WNY till 4pm, then working on friends' houses. When it got dark, his house on the hill would have bright lights and friends surrounding it until his remodeling of a second and third floor addition was completed. He made the house complete for his children and later for many of his children's friends who needed a place to escape to. He was a father figure and an uncle to many who were not blood. But he wouldn’t treat you any different. He was always there. Always present, always available. He was a great man. A kind and caring man. He was a loving husband and a devoted father. He was a lifeline. As Donald would say, it's as simple as that.
In his 20s, Don started working with friends on race cars. He was a certain kind of pit crew leader. One that can't be forgotten. He taught his children in those car shops and in the pit at Holland and Erie speedway. He was a proud father.
