Calvin was known as a very dedicated and loving man, with a sharp wit and a dry sense of humor. He often had to let people know when he was joking as it wasn’t always obvious. His three sons were the joy of his life, and he was as proud as a father could be of the men they grew up to be. He spent a lot of time with them, even writing a book with the three of them once. It was titled “The Tomb of Theregard,” and although it only sold 20 copies, sharing that experience with his boys and the pride of actually having seen it to the end made it a very important event in his life.
Many beloved hobbies and pastimes filled Calvin’s life. One of his favorite things to do was to listen to Frank Sinatra. His iPod had several thousand of Sinatra’s songs on it! When he wasn’t listening to those, he was often watching John Wayne Westerns, Fred Astaire Musicals, or sports. He was a big fan of the Bills and Michigan Football. Pinochle was another cherished hobby. Calvin loved to play the game and taught his whole family how to play so he could have plenty of partners. The one thing that probably brought a smile to his face faster than anything, however, were sweets! Calvin had a special fondness for cake, ice cream, and Milky Way candy bars. Almost every picture of him in which he’s smiling also features a bowl or cone full of ice cream!
