Obituary of Stephanie AKA Mary Ruth Kupiszewski
Sister Mary Ruth Kupiszewski died peacefully on August 4, 2018 at St. Francis Park in the 88th year of life and the 69th year of religious life.
Sr. Mary Ruth was born on April 14, 1930 in Auburn, NY to the late Anthony and the late Rose (nee Borowicz) Kupiszewski. On January 5, 1948 she became a postulant and on July 12, 1952 Sister Mary Ruth professed her final vows.
Sister Ruth attended Rosary Hill College, Buffalo, NY, and, later on, the School of Practical Nursing, Batavia, NY. Sr. Ruth began her ministry career as a teacher. She served at St. Joseph, N Tonawanda, St. Michael, Bridgeport, CT, Corpus Christi, Buffalo, NY and St. Stanislaus, Baltimore, MD. Then after studying to become an LPN, Sr. Ruth ministered to God’s people at St. Anthony’s Home for the Aged, Hamburg, St. Clare Manor, Lockport, NY and Immaculate Conception Convent, Hamburg. Sr. Ruth then spent some years caring for an invalid sister before joining her sisters in the care community in 2013.
Sr. Mary Ruth was deeply influenced by her father’s spirituality and religious practices. She came to know the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph from her years at St. Hyacinth’s school in Auburn. Sr. Ruth had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to the Divine Mercy. She felt a deep peace knowing that the Lord was with her every step of her life’s journey. Sr. Ruth was an avid gardener who spent much time outside doing yard work and gazing on the birds and surrounding nature. In her earlier years, Sr. Ruth enjoyed playing the organ and crocheting as well listening to good music.
Visiting hours will be held on August 6, 2018 from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. at St. Francis Park, Hamburg, New York where a Memorial Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered in the Chapel on August 7, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph in memory of Sister Mary Ruth Kupiszewski.
